Thomas Memorial Park  |  411 Madison St.

Thomas Memorial Park is a 12-acre park located two blocks off McDade Road. The park, built in the 1970’s, consists of a baseball field, playground, restrooms, pavilion, picnic tables and concession area. A youth softball field used for additional little league play is also located in the park.

In the Spring of 2005, the city broke ground on a redevelopment project for Thomas Memorial Park. Elgin received a $195,000 grant from the LCRA, a $50,000 grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife and equivalent matching funds from the City of Elgin, which enabled Thomas Memorial Park to receive additional and updated amenities.

Two additional city lots were purchased near the park with the intent of being used as additional parking and entry points for the park.

Thomas Memorial Park Playground Replacement

City Council has allocated money to replace the Thomas Memorial Playground to update it to be ADA compliant and include shade! While playground replacements take time, we are well into the process!

Public Input for the Thomas Memorial Park Playground Replacement closed Summer 2023. The Parks Advisory Board reviewed the public input and advised that City Staff to work with playground companies to design a modern playground with tower and hill play. Parks & Recreation staff worked with playground companies to review options for blending these playground styles.

City Council reviewed the design at the September 2023 City Council Meeting and approved the design you see below. This new design DOUBLES the sq foot area of the playground by incorporating the hill, has shade structures throughout and will include a shaded seating area for families.  Playground deliveries can take months to be built, shipped and installed. Installation is estimated to take place in Spring 2024.
