Recreation Programming

Elgin Texas Parks & Recreation

In 2015 the Elgin Parks Department was re-created to better cater to the community's needs. The different divisions of the Parks Department add to the quality of life in our community by maintaining parks and green spaces. We plan and implement various programs for all ages and teach Elgin residents about the unique resources around them. From maintaining nearly 120 aces of parkland to providing more than 45 events for all demographics, our staff strives to bring Elgin together 365 days a year.

The Parks Department is responsible for:
  • Recreational Programming
  • Morris Memorial Pool
  • Facility rentals for:
    • Elgin Recreation Center
    • Morris Memorial Pool
    • All Elgin Parks

To support the Elgin Arts & Culture event on Saturday, May 6th, Elgin Parks & Recreation invites everyone of all skill levels to decorate the bollards in Elgin Memorial Park. This project is geared towards all ages and creativity levels. Everyone can decorate a bollard to bring brightness and joy to park goers!

1.) Sign up: https://secure.rec1.com/TX/elgin-tx/catalog

2.) Pick a bollard in Elgin Memorial Park, 361 N HWY 95.

3.) Knit, crochet, or weave your family friendly bollard decoration.

4.) Put up your decoration before May 5th to be included in Elgin Arts & Culture.

5.) Decorations will be on display until June 30th.

What is "Yarn Bombing"?

Yarn bombing is part street art, part graffiti, and part activism, which combines the seemingly “cute” and comforting elements of knitting and crocheting, with the revolutionary and mild civil disobedience of graffiti / “tagging” of public objects, in order to make some sort of artistic statement.
