ERC Rules and Guidelines

MEMBERSHIP RULES & GUIDELINES

  • The Elgin Recreation Department reserves the right to adjust membership fees as necessary.
  • Fees may be paid daily, monthly or yearly.
  • All members must sign an Activity Waiver.
  • A government issued ID must be presented at time of purchase of membership.
  • All patrons must adhere to ERC rules - staff has the right to remove anyone from the premises.
  • All patrons must adhere to staff direction and guidance. 
  • All membership policies will be reviewed annually.
  • Youth under the age of 18 must have their memberships signed by an adult aged 18 & older.
  • All youth 12 years and under must be accompanied by a guardian 18 years or older to enter the Recreation Center. Specific age restrictions for Studio and Weight Room to follow.
  • All members must check in upon entering the Elgin Recreation Center using their provided barcode. Replacement membership cards may be purchased as necessary.
  • Fees do not include externally contracted classes, leagues, tournaments or special events.
  • Members may only register their children for programs that are specifically noted as being for children based on age requirements.
  • Membership includes access to the Elgin Recreation Center, Morris Memorial Pool, and the ability to register for programs and services listed for members.
  • Members will receive a 10% discount on all facilities managed by the Elgin Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Only trained and professional service animals are permitted in the building. No other animals are allowed in the Elgin Recreation Center.
  • The following behavior is prohibited:
    • Carrying or concealing a weapon or any device or object that may be used as a weapon.
    • Use of cellphones in the shower and locker rooms.
    • Theft or behavior that results in the destruction or loss of property.
    • No racist, sexist or offensive language will be permitted on the premises.
  • Zero Tolerance for:
    • Inappropriate/offensive language.
    • Fighting or threats of violence.
    • Physical abuse or hostility.
    • Destruction of city property.
  • Any attack on a patron’s race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age or disability will result in the termination of your membership.
  • When utilizing the shower facilities, please keep nudity limited to the shower and locker area behind the closed door to the bathrooms.
  • Memberships are defined as follows:
    • Family Membership – Up to four (4) adults or children living at the same address. Each additional child added to the membership will be an added fee. All members of the family must show proof of residing at the same address. 
    • Couple Membership – Two (2) people living at the same address. Both members of the couple must show proof of residing at the same address. 
    • Youth Membership – Anyone 17 years of age or younger, with parents/guardian signature.
    • Senior Membership – Anyone 65 years of age or older.

By purchasing a membership/day pass to the Elgin Rec Center, you acknowledge and agree to abide by the facility rules.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Elgin Recreation Center is first and foremost an emergency shelter. Emergency shelter duties may cause partial or complete closure of the Recreation Center as a response to emergencies.

To meet the needs of city functions some operating hours and program times are subject to change. These changes will be posted at the front desk of the Recreation Center and online at the Elgin Recreation Department Facebook @ElginTXParks).

MAIN GYM RULES & GUIDELINES

  • No backpacks, duffels or other large bags are permitted in the gym at any time. All bags must be stored in the lockers provided in the Elgin Recreation Center restrooms and secured with your personal lock. 
  • Youth 12 years and under must be accompanied by a guardian 18 years old or older.
  • No food or open drinks in the Gym area other than water in a plastic container with a secured lid or squirt spout.
  • Must wear proper attire and footwear; example, no heels or cowboy boots on the gym floor.
  • Every person entering the gym must have purchased a membership or day pass unless participating in specialized programming not requiring admission.
  • Headphones must be used to listen to music, no music is permitted to be projected.
  • Do not throw basketballs at emergency doors or windows.
  • Zero Tolerance for:
    • Inappropriate/offensive language.
    • Fighting or threats of violence.
    • Physical abuse or hostility.
    • Destruction of city property.
  • The following are NOT permitted:
    • Hanging from the rims or nets.
    • Throwing balls at the windows or other patrons.
    • Chewing gum.
  • All basketballs must be turned in to the front desk by:
    • Monday – 6:00PM
    • Tuesday – 9:30PM
    • Wednesday – 6:00PM
    • Thursday – 9:30PM
    • Friday – 9:30PM
    • Saturday – 7:45PM
    • Sunday – 7:45PM


WEIGHT ROOM RULES & GUIDELINES

  • Only individuals aged 15 years or older are allowed to enter by themselves.
  • Individuals aged 13 - 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Individuals 12 years and younger are not allowed to enter.
  • Clean equipment after every use; disinfectant wipes available in weight room.
  • No food or open drinks in the Weight Room other than water in a plastic container with a secured lid or squirt spout.
  • Free weights and dumbbells may not be dropped on the floor.
  • Re-rack weights after every use.
  • Use weight collars/clips with bars and weight plates.
  • Allow other members to "work in" and share equipment.
  • Headphones must be used to listen to music, no music is permitted to be projected.
  • No gum allowed in the Weight Room.


STUDIO RULES & GUIDELINES

  • No basketballs or volleyballs allowed in the Studio Room.
  • Youth 12 years and under must be accompanied by a guardian 18 years old or older.
  • Each individual and class participant in the Studio area is responsible for putting away all equipment after use. 
  • No food or open drinks in the Studio other than water in a plastic container with a secured lid or squirt spout. 
  • No gum allowed in the Studio Room.


FITNESS CLASS RULES & GUIDELINES

  • If a class is crowded, participants cannot reserve space or equipment for anyone not present.
  • Patrons must be at least 15 years of age to participate in fitness classes unless otherwise stated or at the instructor’s discretion.
  • Participants who enter a class after the warmup has concluded may be asked to leave at the discretion of the instructor.
  • For the comfort and safety of participants, a towel and water bottle are recommended for fitness classes.
  • No cell phones are to be used inside the Studio during class instruction.
  • The instructor reserves the right to ask a participant to leave for refusal to follow these policies.
  • Put away all equipment after use.


LEAGUE / PROGRAM RULES & GUIDELINES 

To ensure the Elgin Recreation Center stays a safe, family friendly environment for all patrons the following list of rules will be strictly enforced:

  • Zero Tolerance Policy for violence or abusive language; you will be ejected from the league/program forfeiting all fees and banned from the premises if appropriate.
  • Any team or group which consistently exhibits poor sportsmanship will be eliminated from the league/program with forfeiture of all fees.
  • Abusive language or harassment of any Recreation Center member of staff or contractor is strictly forbidden; you will be ejected from the league/program forfeiting all fees.
  • Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs are not allowed on the premises – any evidence of the use of drugs or alcohol prior to the game will result in the police being called and participant being ejected from the game, forfeiting all fees.
  • No food or open drinks in the Gym area other than water in a plastic container with a secured lid or squirt spout.
  • All Elgin Recreation Center Guidelines must be followed at all time while on the premises.

The Elgin Recreation Center staff reserves the right to remove anyone from the premises at their discretion. Upon registration, all players must sign that they agree to follow the Code of Conduct. 

 

LOCKER POLICY

All personal effects should be secured in the locker room by a personal lock while utilizing the Elgin Recreation Center. The Elgin Recreation Center is not responsible for any property left in the facility. Any property left overnight at the Elgin Recreation Center will be taken to lost and found or disposed. 

 

LOST AND FOUND          

The Elgin Recreation Center is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Lost and found items not claimed may be appropriately donated or disposed of after 7 days.

 

ACCIDENTS & INCIDENTS

Contact a member of staff immediately if there is an accident, injury, suspicious activity, rule violation, safety concern or unusual incident. We are here to assist you. Please be advised that you are participating in all activities at your own risk and are fully responsible for yourself, your children and guests.

Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state and local governments, and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of large groups of people. The City of Elgin Parks & Recreation Department has created new protocols and put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however the City of Elgin Parks & Recreation cannot guarantee that you will not become exposed to or infected with COVID-19 by entering upon and using City of Elgin premises.

I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by enter upon and using City of Elgin premises, and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and/or death. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and other, including, but not limited to, City of Elgin employees, volunteers, and others entering upon and using City of Elgin premises. I voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to myself or my child(ren) including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, death, illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense of any kind that I may experience or incur in connection with my entering upon and using City of Elgin premises. On my behalf, and on behalf of my child(ren), I hereby release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless the City of Elgin and their officials, employees, agents and representatives, from and against any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, causes of action, damages, and expenses arising or in any way related to my entrance upon and use of City of Elgin premises. I understand and agree that this release and covenant not to sue includes, but is not limited to, any claims related to COVID-19 based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of City of Elgin or their officials, employees, agents and representatives, whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during or after my entrance upon and use of City of Elgin premises.
