Dia de los Muertos
Tuesday, November 1, 2022
- Join us for this family friendly event in downtown Elgin. Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a traditional celebration in Mexico and Latin America celebrating life and death where mourning is exchanged for celebration. Because it is believed the dead would be offended by grieving and sadness, the festivals are full of color, music, art, food, fragrance, and laughter. It is a time to celebrate the enduring love of family, those here and those before us.
- On November 1st and 2nd, elements include making an altar for deceased family members with photos, orange marigold flowers, favorite food and drinks of the ones being honored, sugar skulls, candles, and music. Learn more about Day of the Dead, make sugar skulls at Elgin Public Library, enjoy mariachis, Ballet Folklorico, and other performers! Traditional family altars will be on display at The Clever Tiger. There will be costumed walking parades, a community altar, food vendors, games, and more throughout the evening!
- The City of Elgin is excited to celebrate this holiday as a community. For more information visit www.elgintexas.gov
